The process of this series is unusual. At the beginning of the winter I set a conscious intention to learn more about cats by drawing them. I scoured the internet for photos of cubs with their tongues out – (not sure why). While sitting in the best light, also watching the front yard bird feeder, I sketched six or seven specific cubs. After transferring the four I liked best onto the 24x24" canvases I'd already primed with turquoise paint, I've intermittently been painting on them as the spirit moves me - starting with all the tongues first!
These paintings seem, on the surface, to be mostly about fun and learning. I suspect that, as time goes by, their contribution to my self-understanding will become more apparent.
